Former Red Daniel Sturridge has revealed that Liverpool forward Divock Origi has been “working tirelessly to get his opportunities” on the pitch.

Sturridge departed Liverpool for Trabzonspor in 2019. However, Sturridge is now without a club.

Sturridge signed for Liverpool back in 2013. Origi signed for Liverpool a year later, which means that they played together for a few years.

Sturridge has stated that Origi puts in the work behind the scenes.

Sturridge told Sky Sports while discussing Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah: ”The numbers they are putting up, incredible.

“For myself, playing with them and seeing them train day in and day out, working their socks off on the pitch and performing at the highest level, you have to commend that.

“Likewise, for the other lads as well from the time I was there, not to mention Divock [Origi] as well who has been performing very well and has been working tirelessly to get his opportunities. There’s a lot of players that deserve credit.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Since 2014, Origi has made 140 appearances for Liverpool. Salah, who signed for Liverpool in 2017, has made 152 appearances for the club.

The aforementioned numbers highlight that Origi has not been given too many opportunities at Anfield.

Origi has scored 34 goals and registered 12 assists.

Origi has not scored plenty of goals during his time at the club, but he has found the back of the net at some important times.

In the 2018-19 season, Origi scored some very important goals.

Origi scored the winner in the dying moments against Everton. The Belgian scored the winning goal against Barcelona in the Champions League.

Origi also scored Liverpool’s second goal in the Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur. That goal ultimately made sure that Liverpool would secure a sixth European Cup.
