Gini Wijnaldum hopes Liverpool can follow on from their Champions League success by winning the Premier League next season.

The Dutchman came off the bench to score a brace in the semi-final second leg against Barcelona to send the Reds through to the final in Madrid, where he made the starting XI.

With the European trophy now secured, the midfielder is eager to push on for domestic glory next season.

“We are still in a moment where we have to realise that we have just won the Champions League,” he said, as quoted by

“What a season we had. It’s good that we finished it with a medal.

“We played better games this season, but at the end it doesn’t matter if you win the game.

“We could have done better but I prefer not to play well and to win the game, because they played quite well and didn’t win it. That’s what we learned during the years.

“Let’s hope that this is just the beginning because that means we still can win titles. If this is the beginning, it’s a good beginning and hopefully more [trophies] will follow.

“Next, hopefully, we can win the Premier League.”
