Virgil van Dijk surgery

Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk underwent surgery this week on the knee ligament injury he sustained during the Merseyside derby after a horror tackle from Jordan Pickford.

The procedure was thankfully successful.

The Holland international is now focussing on his rehabilitation with Liverpool’s medical department.

Joel Matip and Naby Keita return from injuries

Naby Keita and Joel Matip both returned to the Liverpool side this week after being out injured.

Both returned to the bench for Liverpool’s 5-0 victory over Atlanta in midweek. Keita came on in the 65th minute and Matip was an unused substitute.

Thiago Alcantara injury update

Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara is another man on the injury list. The midfielder picked up an injury against Everton, but he has not been seen out on the pitch since.

Jurgen Klopp said before the West Ham game last Saturday that Thiago was in a good way. However, Klopp added that Thaigo “needs a little bit of time to settle”.

It doesn’t look like the Spaniard has returned to training, so it is unlikely that he will be involved in the Manchester City game this weekend.

England call ups

In less surprising news, three Liverpool players have been named in the England squad for November’s international matches.

Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson will join Gareth Southgate’s side for a friendly against the Republic of Ireland before Nations League clashes with Belgium and Iceland.
