UCL groups announced
The Champions League groups were announced this week, with Liverpool placed in group D during Thursdays draw alongside AFC Ajax, Atlanta BC and FC Midtjylland.
The ties with Ajax will mouth-watering for Liverpool fans as it will be the first time the two clubs have met since 1966.
The group stages will begin later this month, with fixtures set for October 20/21 and October 27/28.
Several Liverpool players have been named in England squads this week.
Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander Arnold and Jordan Henderson will join up with Gareth Southgate’s senior squad for this month’s matches against Wales, Belgium and Denmark, Whilst Rhian Brewster and Curtis Jones have been called up by England U21s for their qualifying matches against Andorra and Turkey.
Four more Reds have been named in other England development squads. Rhys Williams has been called up to the u20s for a tie against Wales, Harvey Elliot will join up with the u19s as they play Scotland, and Jarell Quansah and James Balagizi will join the u18s squad.
Thiago Alcantara and Sadio Mane test positive for COVID-19
Thiago Alcantara and Sadio Mane both tested positive for COVID-19 this week.
29-year-old Thiago reportedly exhibited minor symptoms of the virus but is in good health and already getting better.
The Spaniard is currently self-isolating according to the necessary guidelines and will hopefully be back with the Liverpool squad after the international break.
Likewise, Sadio Mane has contracted the virus and will miss Liverpool’s trip to Villa Park this weekend, but Jurgen Klopp his hopeful he will have the Senegalese fit and firing after the international break.
Klopp and Mane nominated for Premier League manager and player of the month
Jurgen Klopp has been shortlisted for the Premier League Manager of the Month award for September, with Sadio Mane has being shortlisted for the Player of the Month award.
Klopp will be up against Carlo Ancelotti (Everton), Brendan Rodgers (Leicester City) and Dean Smith (Aston Villa). Sadio Mane has been shortlisted alongside Patrick Bamford (Leeds United), Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Rodriguez (Everton), Timothy Castagne and Jamie Vardy (Leicester City), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) and Tariq Lamptey (Brighton & Hove Albion).
