Back in January 2018, Liverpool signed centre-back Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for a transfer fee of €84.65 million.

The Dutchman has not looked back since signing for Liverpool. The centre-back has scored 13 goals and registered six assists in 130 appearances for the Reds.

Van Dijk has won four major trophies with Liverpool. The 29-year-old was also the runner-up for the 2019 Ballon d’Or.

It turns out that Van Dijk would not be where he is today without Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.

Van Dijk has recently revealed that Henderson played a role in convincing him to join the club.

Van Dijk said that he was sharing the same agent as Henderson back in 2018. With that being the case, Van Dijk was already in contact with Henderson prior to signing with the Reds.

Van Dijk told the club’s official website the following: “We were sharing the same agent before I joined the club so we were already in contact then and it helped me a lot to make the decision to come to the club as well, so big credit to him!”

Van Dijk clearly respected Henderson before he joined Liverpool. The aforementioned comments from Van Dijk back up that particular argument. You only listen to people that you respect.

Hopefully we see the club offer Van Dijk a new contract soon. The Dutchman’s current deal expires in the summer of 2023.

We would like to see the club tie Van Dijk down to a long-term deal. The Dutchman has not suggested that he wants to depart Anfield. Therefore, if the club does offer him a new contract, we are confident that he will sign.
