Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has sent Liverpool a warning ahead of next season.

Gundogan stated that he is preparing to stay at Manchester City. With that being the case, he wants to “challenge” Liverpool next season and become a Premier League champion again.

Gundogan added that Manchester City know where they went wrong this season. But, at the same time, he congratulated Liverpool on claiming the Premier League title.

“I will be here next season and I am going to fight to be a Premier League champion again,” Gundogan said, as quoted by the Mirror.

“That is my aim and what our aims are. We will try to challenge them [Liverpool] again and hopefully we can do it.

“ Liverpool had a great season so congratulations to them on winning the league. It is something you have to accept. They deserved it, there is no doubt about that.

“We are going to try and make it better again next season. We know what we have done wrong, we know our mistakes and where we have dropped points unnecessarily, so it is up to us to make it better next season.

“If you don’t go through difficult times, you don’t know the worth of winning. I think you have to experience both sides of it.

“Of course, in sports, losing is part of the game. You will have that sooner or later; you can’t always win. One day you win, the other day you lose. It is important to appreciate everything and always try to make it better.”

I fully expect Manchester City to be challenging for the Premier League title next season. Before this season, they had claimed the previous two Premier League titles.

That just shows you how good of a side Pep Guardiola possesses. As Liverpool had not won the Premier League title under Jurgen Klopp, perhaps they were just more motivated than Manchester City this season.

But, as Manchester City are currently 23 points behind Liverpool, I think it would be fair to say that they will be looking for revenge next season.
