RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner has rejected a contract offer from his club, alerting a host of European clubs to his potential availability, including Liverpool.

Werner is keen to leave the Bundesliga side and has opted not to extend his contract this season.

Liverpool have long been linked with a move for Werner, with Jurgen Klopp believed to be a fan, and could now make a move for the 23-year-old in the summer.

“It’s well known that we want to extend with him, but he’s signalled to us that he does not want to sign a new contract,” Leipzig chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff said.

“We need to see what’s right for us and for Timo.”

Werner’s current deal expires next season and Leipzig will be eager to cash in on him while there’s still time to do so.
