Journalist David Ornstein has opened up on Thiago Alcantara’s move from Bayern Munich to Liverpool.

It was announced last week that Thiago would be joining the Reds. According to Ornstein, “Liverpool needed no convincing” in regards to Thiago’s quality.

However, Ornstein said that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff were watching Thiago play for Bayern Munich against Paris Saint-Germain in the 2020 Champions League final when they were in Austria for pre-season.

Ornstein suggested that Thiago’s performance confirmed to Klopp that the midfielder would be the “perfect” signing for Liverpool.

Ornstein said that “the Liverpool players were starting to get excited” about Thiago potentially joining the club.

Ornstein said the following in his weekly video ‘Ask Ornstein’ (2:27): “Liverpool needed no convincing but when Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff were watching the Champions League final over a drink – at Liverpool’s pre-season training camp in Austria – it underlined the fact that Thiago would be the perfect signing for their team and their club.

“The Liverpool players were starting to get excited about the idea of this happening and the deal really came together last week in the early part. Around Monday, I think, there was a breakthrough in talks that had been taking place over the weekend.

“Liverpool dispatched their club doctor, Jim Moxon, to begin the medical process in Germany. And then it was done for a fee in the region of €30m. Liverpool will pay around £5m per year for each of the four years of Thiago’s contract, plus some performance-related add-ons.

“So it would appear to be a fantastic transfer from a footballing and a financial perspective.”

We find it interesting that the Liverpool players were reportedly excited about Thiago potentially joining the club.

It shows that the players who currently play for Liverpool want the club to improve. They aren’t just focused on themselves.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has labelled Thiago as “world-class” before, so the midfielder was clearly going to improve the Reds.

We are very lucky to have such classy individuals representing our club. The reality is, the club is bigger than any individual,

The players clearly understand that to be the case, as they reportedly wanted a player to come in who would challenge them.
