Sheffield United reportedly held extensive talks with Liverpool over the weekend as they look to seal a deal for Rhian Brewster.

According to The Star, Sheffield United spoke with Liverpool recently and have been trying to convince the Reds to allow Brewster to join the Yorkshire-based club.

The report claims that Sheffield United are keen to beat Aston Villa to his signature as they look to wrap up their summer business, although it does not state how receptive Liverpool are to a potential deal.

Should Liverpool be looking to move Brewster on? No. Not if they are also considering letting go of Divock Origi this summer.

Origi has been linked with a loan switch to Turkish giants Fenerbahce this week. Liverpool have reportedly been in talks over an Anfield exit for the Belgian, which could involve a loan with an obligation to buy for €15m.

Brewster was in blistering form for Championship side Swansea in the second half of last season as he smashed in 11 goals in 21 starts. The forward was able to show off his quality on a consistent basis and led Swansea to the play-offs, only to be knocked out in the semi-finals.

If Origi does leave to join Fenerbahce, then Brewster’s stats for Swansea suggest that he could be the man to replace him in the Liverpool squad. This means that Liverpool could benefit from rejecting Sheffield United’s interest and keeping Brewster in the first-team squad whilst selling Origi to Fenerbahce or any other interest party.
