Jurgen Klopp has offered an update on Naby Keita’s future with the midfielder still struggling to get into the Liverpool team at the moment.
It’s been another season of frustration for the midfielder with a number of fitness problems yet again stopping him from having a run of games.
He’s a good player, of course, but we’re not seeing that consistently enough either because he’s not around for long enough or because he’s simply not got it in him to kick on.
Indeed, that’s sparked speculation around his future and his manager has jumped to say he’s going nowhere in a pretty big update.
Speaking to his press conference, Jurgen Klopp said:
“Naby – he trains really well in the moment, I must say, like a lot of other players, he looks really
good in training. But, this year now we have to [search for] stability. We will make changes from
time to time, definitely. But it’s not like you can change 7/8/9 players to change and say ‘Maybe we
can win it like this’.
“The long-term future of Naby Keita is here, yes.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
A pretty emphatic final line from Klopp there and that gives us no reason to believe that the midfielder will be leaving this summer.
Keita has quality but he needs to be showing it week in, week out and be available all the time too – we’ll only have to wait and see if he can do that.
