Schalke centre-back Malick Thiaw could be set for a move to Liverpool, according to the Mirror.

Thiaw only has one year left on his contract at Schalke, which has caught the attention of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Thiaw’s release clause is only ¬£7 million, which is a bargain considering how inflated the market has become. The centre-half has only played one Bundesliga game, but he is highly respected.

The Mirror are claiming that Liverpool are preparing for the future, which is why the 18-year-old could be on his way to Anfield.

Dejan Lovren has been linked with a move away from Anfield. The likes of Lazio, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in the Croatia international.

Nothing has been confirmed, but there is a fair chance Lovren could depart come the summer, which could play a part in Thiaw coming to Anfield.

Also, it is important to consider how injury prone the likes of Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are.

Liverpool would not be silly to bring in some defensive reinforcement come the summer, especially when one considers that Thiaw has a bright future ahead of him.
