Sadio Mane told the Mirror that his angry reaction to Mohamed Salah not passing to him against Burnley led to Gini Wijnaldum taking the pi** out of him.
“Everyone was taking the p**s out of us!” Mane said. “Wijnaldum, who likes to tease people, waited until everyone was there, came up to me and asked out loud ‘Mo Salah, why did Mane want to hit you?’ and the whole team started laughing.”
While it might have looked like their relationship was frayed at the time, Mane’s interview just proves that his frustration was purely born out of a desire to ensure that Burnley didn’t get the chance to mount a comeback.
The Reds are looking to win their first-ever Premier League title by beating Pep Guardiola’s men to the trophy this season and have made as good a start as they possibly could have hoped to.
With 24 points after eight games, they lead City by eight points and are threatening to open up a seriously commanding gap if the Citizens drop any more points before the two sides meet in November.
