Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes that the 2019-20 Premier League season should be cancelled due to the coronavirus.

Liverpool currently possess a 25-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, which means two more victories would ensure Jurgen Klopp’s side the title.

However, due to the coronavirus, the Premier League has been postponed. The FA have confirmed that they plan to finish the 2019-20 Premier League season, as they have removed the June 30th deadline for the campaign to be completed.

However, the season has been suspended indefinitely, with matches not starting again until at least April 30th.

Despite the fact that the FA have stated that they intend to finish the season, Ferdinand believes that the campaign should be cancelled.

Speaking in an Instagram Live, as quoted by the Evening Standard, Ferdinand said: “I just think the Premier League should just be voided. Just void it.

“I know there are going to be a lot of Liverpool fans going, ‘Oh Rio, it’s just because you support Manchester United and it’s Liverpool.’

“It’s not that, it’s just that I don’t see a way that it can be done, where health isn’t compromised. Simple as that.”

Ferdinand is correct that health is more important than football. However, you can’t cancel the season. The backlash would be huge.

The 2019-20 season will be concluded when it is safe to do so, which means that no one will be impacted by the coronavirus.

Playing games behind closed doors would not be ideal, but it could certainly be an option.
