Reported Liverpool target Houssem Aouar is available for a fee in the region of £54m this summer, with fellow Premier League Arsenal thought to be keen on signing him.

According to The Telegraph, Ligue 1 side Lyon are prepared to let him go if a club is prepared to offer £54m for the Frenchman. Arsenal and an unnamed Champions League club are said to be interested in prizing him away from France before next month’s transfer deadline.

French outlet RMC Sport claimed earlier this year that Liverpool were very interested in signing Aouar this summer to bolster their own squad. However, The Telegraph have not mentioned Liverpool in this updated piece on Aouar’s potential availability in the coming weeks.

It is not a surprise to see that Liverpool are not actively pursuing a deal for Aouar after they brought Thiago in from Bayern Munich earlier this month. Liverpool signed Thiago from Bayern for a fee in the region of £20m, so less than half the price Aouar could be sold for.

Thiago was given an impressive WhoScored rating of 7.47 for his performances in the Bundesliga last season, starting 20 games in the league. Aouar, on the other hand, was given a score of 7.02 as he started 23 games in Ligue 1 for Lyong last term. This suggests that Liverpool were right to sign Thiago and abandon their pursuit of Aouar – certainly given the prices involved.

The Spaniard cost £24m less than Aouar reportedly would yet was able to produce a higher level of performances in midfield last season, which highlights how much of a bargain Liverpool were able to get in luring him to Anfield this summer. Thiago will now be looking to replicate his excellent displays for Bayern this season in the Premier League with Liverpool to prove his worth.
