Chelsea full-back Reece James was recently asked to name the toughest opponent that he has faced in his career thus far.
James named both Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling and Liverpool winger Sadio Mane as his two toughest opponents.
“Everyone knows how good a player Raheem Sterling is,” James said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo. “It’s very hard playing against him.
“He’s probably one of the best wingers in the world at this moment in time and we’re going to need him for this tournament.
“Raheem Sterling is definitely up there (as the toughest) and I’d probably say (Sadio) Mane as well.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Liverpool signed Mane from Southampton for a transfer fee of €41.20 million back in the summer of 2016.
Mane struggled last season. The Senegal international only scored 16 goals and registered nine assists in 48 appearances for the Reds.
However, for the most part, Mane has been an exceptional player for Liverpool. The 29-year-old has found the back of the net 97 times and registered 43 assists in 218 appearances.
The aforementioned figures highlight that Mane is a top player. Therefore, we are confident that he will return to his best next season.
James’ comments also highlight just how good of a player Mane is. Mane’s current contract does not expire until the summer of 2023.
Mane has not indicated that he wants to leave the club anytime soon.
With that being the case, Liverpool supporters will be able to sit back and watch Mane for at least a couple more seasons.
