Pundit Danny Mills believes that Liverpool should consider signing Manchester City winger Leroy Sane this summer.
Sane, who joined Manchester City from Schalke for a transfer fee of £37 million back in 2016, has missed the entire 2019-20 campaign due to an ACL injury.
Sane suffered the injury in Manchester City’s FA Community Shield victory against Liverpool, which took place one week before the 2019-20 Premier League season was about to get underway.
Before this injury occurred, a variety of reports were suggesting that Sane was looking for a move to Bayern Munich, but any hope of that occurring ended when he injured his knee.
Sane’s future remains unclear at this current moment, and with that being the case, Mills believes that Liverpool should look to sign the winger this summer.
However, this is dependant on whether Liverpool lose Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah this summer.
“[Wolves forward] Adama Traore makes a lot of headlines because of his pace and power but to step into a title-winning side, to replace somebody like Sadio Mane or Mo Salah – I do not think he is there yet,’ Mills told Football Insider.
“Somebody like Leroy Sane – possibly. He is coming back from injury and has been linked with a move away recently and could be surplus to requirements.
“He is young, a great talent and has experience. That would be more realistic but I do not know if Manchester City would sell to rivals.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Sane has been a solid performer for the Citizens. This statement can be backed up by the fact that he has scored 39 goals in 134 appearances for the club since 2016.
He has also registered 45 assists, which shows that he has the ability to provide goals for his teammates.
The aforementioned statistics show that Sane is comfortable playing football within England. With that being the case, he would not be the worst signing for the Reds.
In fact, he is someone that Liverpool should pursue regardless of who might depart come the summer.
There has been nothing to suggest that Mane or Salah will depart Liverpool come the summer, which means that Sane would be joining them at Anfield if the Reds were to sign him.
Sane, 24, would add depth to Liverpool’s attack, but he would cost around €100 million. He would be worth the price tag, as he is still young and improving.
