Pundit Danny Mills believes that Tottenham Hotspur should look at signing Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren come the summer.

Lovren, who joined Liverpool from Southampton for a transfer fee of £20 million back in 2014, has had an up and down time since signing for the Reds.

At the beginning, many believed he was going to be the difference in defence. However, he never became that player for Liverpool.

In his time at the club thus far, he has still been apart of a squad that has won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Lovren’s future at Liverpool remains unclear at this moment and time, but if the centre-back were to be moved on come the end of the season, Mills believes that Tottenham would be the ideal club for the Croatia international.

“He is the self-professed greatest centre-half in the world”, Mills told Football Insider, as quoted by Vital Football.

“There seems to be a shortage of defenders out there at the moment.

“He has slipped down the pecking order at Liverpool and there will now be teams looking to snap him up. He is still a good player. Although he has quality he does make a mistake from time to time.

“There will be Premier League teams high up the table that are looking at his services.

“He would be an obvious replacement for Jan Vertonghen were he to leave Spurs this summer.”

It does appear that Lovren’s time at Anfield is coming to an end. He has been a fine servant for the club, but the reality is, Liverpool could do better.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp simply can’t rely on the centre-back to remain fit, and that is an issue.
