PSG star Dani Alves says that losing 3-2 to Liverpool earlier in the season will help them overcome Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s Manchester United in the Champions League Round of 16.
Liverpool beat the Ligue 1 champions at home in dramatic fashion thanks to a brilliant Roberto Firmino goal in the 90th minute to settle the tie.
Alves believes that PSG’s ability to beat Liverpool in the return leg in Paris will prove pivotal in their Ro16 clash with Manchester United.
“I think we have to learn from the mistakes made during the competition and not reproduce the same mistakes,” the Brazilian said ahead of tonight’s clash.
“There are few games in the Champions League, so there is little room for error. We have to capitalise on what we do well because we have great ambitions in this competition.
“We need to raise our level of performance, concentration, raise our level in duels, but I know we can do it, and we will do it.
“It will not be easy, of course, they will not give us presents. We will have to race each other to clinch the qualification.”
Alves added: “We started with a rather negative result at Anfield, and then we raised our level in the competition when we had to show everyone our ability and strength.
“In the second leg against Liverpool, we responded. When we had to win, we went to get the result. We got the qualification and the first place of the group.
“It’s certainly an advantage (playing at home second), but first and foremost you have to focus on the first leg.”
