PSG reportedly believe Liverpool’s key forward Mo Salah wants to leave the Premier League side at the end of the season.
According to French outlet Le Parisien, PSG are eyeing up Salah as a potential target to replace Kylian Mbappe as they think Salah is looking to depart Anfield.
The report claims PSG will move for Salah if Mbappe decides that he will not sign a new contract with the French giants.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Mo Salah recently revealed that he is not in contract talks to extend his current deal with Liverpool, but did admit that he wants to win the Premier League and Champions League again with the club. This does not suggest that he is immediately thinking about leaving Liverpool, as he – of course – cannot win the Premier League title if he decides to go and join PSG in Ligue 1.
Therefore, until other trusted sources corroborate Le Parisien’s story regarding Salah’s intentions ahead of the summer window, this should be taken with a pinch of salt. It could be PSG’s way of trying to unsettle Salah and create panic, potentially to assure their fans that they do have plans in place should Mbappe end up sealing a summer transfer.
Irrespective of what PSG believe, though, Salah’s contract is an issue for Liverpool. If he does not extend his deal between now and the end of next season, Liverpool face the prospect of heading into the 2022 summer transfer window with Salah only having one year left to run. This means that they could end up losing him on a free if he opts to run down his deal and leave in 2023.
