Reds goalkeeper Adrian has sent the Liverpool supporters a message after Atletico Madrid were victorious at Anfield.
The Spanish giants were second best for large parts at Anfield last night, but they came from 2-0 down to win 3-2, progressing to the quarter-final stage of the Champions League 4-2 on aggregate.
Gini Wijnaldum gave Liverpool the lead on the night just before half time.
However, despite Liverpool creating a number of golden opportunities throughout the second half, the Reds could not convert, meaning the game went to extra time with the aggregate score at 1-1.
Liverpool doubled their lead on the night and took a 2-1 lead on aggregate when Roberto Firmino scored early in the first half of extra time, however, an error from Adrian shortly after saw Marcos Llorente score the away goal Atletico Madrid needed.
Despite Liverpool possessing a 2-1 lead on the night, the game was locked at 2-2 on aggregate, meaning the Reds had to score again.
However, with the Reds taking more risks, Llorente scored again, just before the first half of extra time came to an end. This saw Atletico Madrid equalise on the night, and ultimately seal the deal on aggregate.
Alvaro Morata scored late in the second half of extra time, meaning Atletico Madrid won the game 3-2 on the night, and progressed 4-2 on aggregate.
Adrian’s mistake ultimately cost Liverpool the tie, and with that, he had a message for the Anfield faithful post-game.
Very sad and disappointed for the result tonight, clearly not what we were expecting. Thanks to all the fans for the support, we still have big objectives ahead this season.@LFC always comes back pic.twitter.com/sMVqQqp4qF

One really does have to feel for Adrian. The Liverpool supporters will be pleased to see this message, as he has accepted he made an error. That is all he can do.
Since coming back into the side recently for the injured Alisson, Adrian has looked a tad nervous.
This simply stems from the fact that he has hardly played as of late. It is difficult to be a reserve goalkeeper, as you basically get no minutes on the pitch throughout the season to prepare for a suspension or an injury to the No. 1.
Adrian made a huge error and he knows it, but, he has to move on with the Merseyside derby around the corner.
