Steve Bruce has confirmed that his Newcastle United side will be without six players when they travel to face Liverpool at Anfield this weekend.

Jurgen Klopp’s players will attempt to make it five wins from five in the Premier League this season when they host Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.

The European Champions will be pleased to hear that they won’t need to contend with the tricky Allan Saint-Maximin.

Bruce told the Chronicle: The major ones [injuries] we’re talking about – Dwight [Gayle], Andy Carroll and Saint-Maximin – they are a big three to get fit. I can’t see any of them being available for this weekend against Liverpool but two of them are progressing.

The Newcastle manager added that Matt Ritchie, Miguel Almiron and Fabian Schar are all doubts for the Anfield clash but all players will be assessed ahead of the game.

For Liverpool, Alisson and Naby Keita are certain to miss the fixture but both are nearing returns in the next month or so while Nathaniel Clyne will likely be out for the whole season due to anterior cruciate ligament damage.

Jurgen Klopp will provide an update on all injuries before Saturday’s kickoff when he hosts his pre-match press conference at Melwood on Friday.
