Former Red Michael Owen has given his prediction for Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Reds welcome Wolves to Anfield on Sunday evening. Owen believes that Jurgen Klopp’s team will secure a 3-1 victory against Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.

Owen has also backed Liverpool forward Diogo Jota to score against his former club.

Owen told BetVictor: “Wolves picked up an impressive win at the Emirates last week. Up until then, they hadn’t quite hit the heights of last season.

“They’ve had one or two injuries and now they’ll be without Raul Jimenez after he endured a terrible head injury.

“I covered the Brighton game and without a few controversial decisions, Liverpool would have come away with all 3 points.

“Arguably, Diogo Jota has been the signing of the season, so far. He comes into this in red hot form and I think it could be written in the stars that he scores against his former club. 3-1.”

We agree with Owen that Liverpool should claim a victory against Wolves, and we will explain why.

Despite having a number of injury problems, Liverpool were able to defeat Ajax 1-0 in the Champions League midweek. Klopp’s side should take confidence from that.

In terms of the Premier League, Liverpool secured a 1-0 victory against Wolves at Anfield last season. Sadio Mane scored the winner for the Reds.

Later in the 2019-20 season, Liverpool defeated Wolves 2-1 away from home. Jordan Henderson and Roberto Firmino were Liverpool’s goalscorers on the night.

The aforementioned results highlight that Liverpool have a solid record against Wolves. Liverpool clearly have a fair idea about how to play against Wolves.
