Former Red Michael Owen has recently spoken about Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League clash against Arsenal.
The Reds will face the Gunners at Anfield on Monday night. Both sides have won their opening two fixtures of the 2020-21 Premier League season.
Owen believes that both sides will leak goals on Monday night. However, he has backed Jurgen Klopp’s side to outscore Mikel Arteta’s team.
Owen told BetVictor: “No question that the biggest game of Premier League Matchday 3 is the mouth-watering clash between Liverpool and Arsenal. There is a real positivity surrounding both clubs at the moment and this could well be the season when Arsenal return to their once customary place in the Champions League.
“Liverpool will have their sights set on retaining their Premier League title and with both teams having taken six points out of six this term, I think this is going to be an absolute cracker to round off Matchday 3.
“Both teams have shown a vulnerability in defence so far this season and I see that trend continuing on Monday night. Historically, fixtures between these two sides have resulted in goals aplenty and I don’t see that changing this time around.
“I’m going for a memorable game, full of attacking threat, and a 3-2 victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Arsenal did give Liverpool a good game at the backend of August when both sides met at Wembley Stadium to contest the Community Shield.
In 90 minutes, the match finished 1-1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the first goal of the game for Arsenal. Takumi Minamino equalised for Liverpool.
However, the Gunners won the shield on penalties. Because of the result of the Community Shield, Arteta’s Arsenal have every reason to be confident that they can get something from Anfield on Monday night.
But, Liverpool were good going forward against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend. The Reds were also good defensively. The aforementioned comments can be backed up by the fact that Liverpool won the game 2-0.
Due to what we saw at Stamford Bridge, we feel that Liverpool are in decent form.
With that being the case, Liverpool should be confident of beating Arsenal on Monday night.
Liverpool did finish 43 points ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League last season, so it is obvious who the better team currently is.
The 2019-20 Premier League season concluded at the backend of July, so there is no way Arsenal could have improved so dramatically in a couple of months.
It is common knowledge that football does not work like that.
