Liverpool are on the verge of signing Dutch teenage sensation Sepp van den Berg, according to The Times.

The 17-year-old defender currently plies his trade for PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie, where he made 22 appearances in the previous campaign.

The Reds have reportedly agreed a fee of £1.5million for the young centre-back, who will slot into the Academy at Kirkby.

Interest in van den Berg was high, with Bayern Munich and Ajax also keen on signing the Under-19 Holland international.

A medical has been scheduled for sometime within the next 24 hours, with van den Berg set to become a Liverpool player before the weekend.

The defender is represented by Key Sports Management, who also represent Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez, who also made the switch to Anfield in 2015 at 18 years of age.

Van den Berg is regarded by the club as being at the same level as Gomez when he arrived on Merseyside, with big things expected of the Dutchman in the coming years.
