Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all set to miss Liverpool’s game against Atalanta after being absent during training on Tuesday.

The trio all sat out of team training as Liverpool prepared for their game against Atalanta in the Champions League on Wednesday, as they all recover from their respective knocks.

James Pearce, of The Athletic, confirmed the news as he also revealed that Roberto Firmino missed training – but does not have an injury concern.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

All three players also missed out against Leicester at the weekend, as Liverpool won 3-0 in the Premier League. So, their absence may not be noticed for this particular game, as the Reds have shown that they are able to cope without them by beating Leicester – who were top of the Premier League heading into the game.

They now need to show that they can also do it in the Champions League, though, and that could present a different challenge as they play the Italian to face different opposition to what they face in the Premier League. So, it will be interesting to see how Liverpool get on and if the absence of Henderson and Thiago in the midfield is noticed, along with Alexander-Arnold missing out at right-back.

In the win over Leicester, James Milner recorded an impressive WhoScored rating of 8.2 in place of Trent. He was solid in defence, helping to keep a clean sheet, and also set up Roberto Firmino for the third goal with a well-placed corner. In terms of the central positions, Gini Wijnaldum scored 7.1 and Curtis Jones managed 6.8 – showing that both players were able to put in respectable performances and fill in whilst the others recover from their injuries.
