Liverpool transfer target Memphis Depay has reportedly entered into negotiations with Spanish giants Barcelona ahead of the summer window.

According to Catalan TV station Esport3, as transcribed by the Daily Mail, Barcelona are now in talks with Depay over a deal to bring him to the Nou Camp on a free transfer this summer.

The report claims Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Inter have also made offers for Depay, but the forward is keen on a move to Barcelona.

Liverpool missing out on Depay could be a great shame for a number of reasons. For starters, Depay could be an excellent investment in terms of the potential financial gain for Liverpool. He is available on a free transfer this summer, which means Liverpool do not need to pay a fee for his services and could – therefore – sell him on for profit in the future.

Transfermarkt values Depay at ¬£40.5m and that means Liverpool could make a huge sum of money selling him on if they decided to cash in on him in a future transfer window. It also means that Liverpool could save money in signing a forward of Depay’s quality for a big fee, as the Dutch international has proven his quality as a striker at the top level this season.

Depay has scored 18 goals and provided nine assists in Ligue 1 this season, having managed nine goals and two assists in 13 games last term for Lyon. This shows that the former Manchester United man is able to provide consistent quality in terms of his end product. So, Depay’s negotiations with Barcelona and desire to sign with them could rid Liverpool of the opportunity to bring him to the club.
