Liverpool are reportedly willing to go a high as £56m (€65m) to sign Inter Milan central midfielder Nicolo Barella at the end of the season.

According to Italian outlet InterLive, Liverpool have had their eye on Barella and are now focussing their efforts on a potential swoop for the Italian international.

The report also claims that Manchester United are interested in Barella and are preparing a €60m offer of their own ahead of the summer transfer window.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

This is a rumour that does not seem to go away for Liverpool. Barella has been linked with a switch to Anfield several times this year, as the club potentially prepare for life after Gini Wijnaldum. Interestingly, the Dutch midfielder has reportedly agreed to join Inter on a free transfer this summer and could end up being Barella’s replacement if he leaves the Italian giants.

Liverpool and Inter could end up doing a swap deal of sorts, despite the two deals not being related to each other. Wijnaldum looks like he could be on his way to Inter on a free, whilst Liverpool could have to work very hard to land Barella as Inter try to keep hold of him – possibly with the view to him starting alongside Wijnaldum in the Serie A next season.

Whether or not a £56m offer from Liverpool would be enough for Inter to consider selling him also remains to be seen. It could be one to keep an eye on in the coming months, especially if bids from Liverpool and Manchester United start flying in for him as Barella’s point of view on the situation has not been revealed as of yet.
