Liverpool have reportedly prepared a €100m bid to sign PSG forward Kylian Mbappe next summer as they look to battle Real Madrid for his signature.
According to L’Equipe, as transcribed by Deportes Cuatro, Liverpool have made Mbappe a high priority target and Jurgen Klopp has been speaking with his father in an attempt to convince the winger to join the Reds.
The report does, however, claim that Mbappe is set on signing for Real Madrid, despite the Spanish club being concerned that Liverpool will win the race to land the Frenchman in 2021.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Is Mbappe worth spending €100m on? Yes. His statistics at PSG speak for themselves; 91 goals and 56 assists in 126 competitive games and he is only 21. A sensational record for a man of his age, coupled with the fact he has already won the World Cup with France – scoring in the final as they beat Croatia in 2018.
This is why Mbappe is worth €100m and why he could be a statement signing for Liverpool. Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane will all be 29 by this time next year, with the possible signing of Mbappe proving that Liverpool are ready to spend big in order to replace them. With the trio heading towards their 30’s, Liverpool could need to bring in quality, younger, replacements in order to continue having success at the top of the table.
Bringing Mbappe in is a clear statement to the rest of the league that Liverpool are not messing around and are here to stay. Mbappe is a proven goalscorer, as shown by his goal return for PSG, and could still have room to improve further given his young age. If Liverpool can bring him in, it would be an excellent signing on paper for Klopp.
