Liverpool are reportedly set to make an offer for €25m-rated Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, Liverpool previously enquired about a deal for Cakir and are now set to return with a firm offer for the shot-stopper as they want a strong goalkeeper to compete with Alisson.

The report claims Trabzonspor want a fee in the region of €25m for Cakir and are willing to wait until after the European Championships as they believe he could increase his value during the competition.

Trabzonspor’s tactic of waiting until after the European Championships has the potential to be a very clever move by the club. If Cakir is Turkey’s number one throughout the tournament and is able to produce some superb performances then it could convince clubs to come in with big offers and start a bidding war. Clubs could be watching the European Championships to find transfer targets and if Cakir impresses it could raise his value and bring a huge payday to Trabzonspor.

The report does not state how much Liverpool are prepared to offer for Cakir or whether they would be able to afford the €25m fee. This means that Trabzonspor could end up rejecting Liverpool’s bid and holding off until after the European Championships, which could force Liverpool to look elsewhere. If they do not sign him before the tournament starts, it could leave them scrambling for a deal towards the end of the window and increase the chances of a panic buy.
