Liverpool are reportedly optimistic over a deal to sign Wolves forward Diego Jota this summer to add to their squad.

According to Melissa Reddy, of The Independent, Liverpool are growing increasingly confident of signing the Portuguese international.

The report claims that Liverpool are ready to pay in excess of £35m for the winger as they look to complete their third signing of the summer transfer window.

This news comes after the club confirmed the arrival of Spanish midfielder Thiago from Bayern Munich on a four-year contract. Jota could now be the third first-team signing of the summer, joining Thiago and Kostas Tsimikas in bolstering Klopp’s options.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Jota is an experienced player in English football after three seasons with Wolves, one coming in the Championship and two in the Premier League. He was able to produce 17 goals and five assists in his first campaign with Wolves in the second tier, before scoring 16 goals and assisting six in the following two seasons in the top-flight.

Along with his impressive Premier League performances, Jota scored six goals in eight Europa League matches last season for Wolves. He only started three of the matches and averaged a WhoScored rating of 6.89 – showing the level of consistency in his game.

If Sadio Mane or Mo Salah picked up an injury, Jota could provide a proven Premier League replacement in the starting line-up. This means that Klopp could have a reliable option in his squad to rotate the front three and give Firmino, Mane and Salah chances to have a rest when the schedule is compact and demanding – especially over the winter period.
