Liverpool are reportedly in discussions with Brighton over a potential £35m deal for central midfielder Yves Bissouma this summer.

According to Kevin Palmer, of the Sunday World, Bissouma is aware of Liverpool’s interest in his services and talks are underway between the two clubs.

The report claims Naby Keita could be sold by Liverpool in order to fund the deal, although it does not state how much they would demand for the former Leipzig man.

Liverpool selling Keita and bringing in Bissouma as his replacement could be a huge upgrade for the club this summer. Not only could Bissouma offer more on the pitch than Keita, but he could be available for selection far more often as well. Keita has started 32 Premier League games in the last three seasons since joining Liverpool, whilst Bissouma has started 62 games for Brighton in that time.

This means that Bissouma could be more of a reliable option for Jurgen Klopp in the midfield position. Keita has suffered 14 separate injury issues in three years at Liverpool, which shows that he is not a player Klopp can count on to be fit throughout a season. The midfielder has not been able to find his rhythm on the pitch because he has not been able to stay fit for a consistent run of games, with a dismal WhoScored rating of 6.59 in the Premier League this year.

£35m-rated Bissouma, meanwhile, has averaged an impressive WhoScored rating of 6.97 in the Premier League this season. He has averaged 2.8 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 1.5 dribbles completed per game for Brighton, showing that he is excellent at winning the ball back and then driving his side up the pitch in transition with his ability on the ball.
