Liverpool had a booked a medical for Lloyd Kelly last year, according to The Times.

However, Kelly reportedly changed his mind about joining the Reds.

Kelly was still at Bristol City at the time. Once Kelly had changed his mind about going to Anfield, he joined Bournemouth a few weeks later.

Kelly was probably wise to not join Liverpool, as he was never going to replace Andy Robertson in the side.

Robertson scored three goals and registered 12 assists in 49 appearances for Liverpool last season.

Kelly is only 21 years old. He needs to be playing regularly if he is going to improve and learn about the game. He would not have got an opportunity at Liverpool.

We don’t think Liverpool missed out on Kelly in the end. He has never been spoken about as the next best thing.

Kelly might go on and become a decent player, but Liverpool missing out on him is not the end of the world.

Besides, Liverpool have just signed a new left-back in Kostas Tsimikas. The Reds have certainly moved on.
