Liverpool midfield duo Thiago and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are set to remain on the sidelines for now after Jurgen Klopp offered an update on the pair.

The Reds were pegged back late on by Brighton on Saturday lunchtime in the Premier League and must now move on quickly from the disappointment with games coming thick and fast.

Tuesday sees more Champions League action as the Reds bid to make the knockouts against Dutch club Ajax, whilst Wolves then visit Anfield next Sunday evening.

Both games, though, are unlikely to involve long-term absentees Thiago and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with Klopp suggesting as such after full-time against the Seagulls.

Quoted by the Liverpool Echo, he said when asked about the status of the duo:

“We haven’t thought about Ajax and Wolves too much, but I don’t think so.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Oxlade-Chamberlain is a player that has struggled with injuries throughout his career, not just at Liverpool, and we’ve not seen him this season after a pre-season blow.

Thiago, meanwhile, has shown his class in appearances against Chelsea and Everton but an injury against the Toffees simply does not seem to be clearing up at the moment.

Both, then, would appear to be facing at least another week away from playing and the hope will only be they do eventually play a part in the coming weeks with so many matches to deal with.
