Liverpool defender Neco Williams has been named on the shortlist for the 2020 Golden Boy award.
The 19-year-old is joined by the likes of Dortmund’s Erling Haaland and Bayern’s Alphonso Davies on the list as he enters the running to be crowned Europe’s best young player.
Kylian Mbappe, Cesc Fabregas, Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero are past winners of the award since it’s inception in 2003 and are the players Williams could join in the record books if he wins.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
It is excellent to see Williams nominated for this honour and it is a sign of the incredible progress he has made in the senior game this year. Williams broke into the first-team at the backend of last season and made six Premier League appearances, including three from the start.
Williams also made his debut for Wales earlier this month and scored his first goal for his country at senior level. This highlights the impact he is already having at such a young age, and why Tuttosport may have decided to include him in the voting. Hopefully, he will be able to push on this season and continue to develop his game and become a regular member of Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League squad and break into the Wales senior XI.
So if you want Williams to be Golden Boy 2020 you need to get voting and give him as much support as possible. Best of luck Neco!
