Liverpool could have been handed a boost in their bid to sign Dayot Upamecano in the summer transfer window with Bayern Munich reportedly setting their sights elsewhere.

The Bavarian giants, according to BILD reporter Christian Falk, have been looking intently at the Red Bull Leipzig ace, who is currently valued at £54m by transfermarkt.

However, Goal now claims that the Bundesliga title-holders are hot on the heels of Real Madrid defender Eder Militao and could look to sign him instead, with David Alaba potentially going the other way to the Bernabeu.

Liverpool, then, might not have to compete with Munich to try and sign the 22-year-old defender but, as per Falk, Chelsea remain keen and will have to potentially be beaten back in the summer with them apparently contacting the player’s representatives.

It seems highly likely that speculation and discussion over the future of Upamecano is going to be here until the summer transfer window at the very least.

It also appears quite possible that he’ll be on the move in the transfer window before the 21/22 season and it just remains to be seen where he ends up.

Liverpool have been linked with him heavily and still remain interested judging by reports, though Chelsea could look to put a spanner in the works even if Bayern Munich now do not.

Indeed, though the Bavarians obviously have money, it seems hard to make a case for them going for both Militao and Upamecano in the summer window given the cost that would incur, so the Reds may hope they’re prioritising the Madrid man.
