Liverpool have been made aware of the availability of defender Eder Militao with current club Real Madrid apparently open to a loan exit for the player.
The Reds’ defensive issues have been spoken about at length this season so far and it is hard to say exactly whether the club is going to sign a new defender this month.
Certainly, a permanent signing could seem unlikely given the climate we are in but a loan move for the 22-year-old Militao, as per the Sunday World, might intrigue the Reds.
The centre-back has struggled to get into the Madrid team this season under Zinedine Zidane and so the Spanish giants are thought to be open to a loan deal for the rest of the year, with Tottenham also linked with him.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Militao might be an option worth considering but it would seemingly go against the approach the Reds have taken in recent markets.
It’s clear they’re not overly interested in short-term deals for player but, then, have they ever been in this situation with defensive injuries before?
It’s perhaps something to consider for Michael Edwards and co. but there’s probably little point in holding one’s breath about it at the moment.
