Bayern Munich have reportedly tabled a €45m offer for Liverpool transfer target Kalidou Koulibaly as they look to snap the defender up this summer.
According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis met with Koulibaly’s agent to discuss the offer.
The report does not, however, reveal the outcome of the meeting, with Bayern’s €45m offer potentially still on the table as it stands.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Liverpool have been linked to Koulibaly a number of times in recent transfer windows, with one report earlier this season claiming that the club were looking to place a bid in for him in the January transfer window. That, seemingly, did not materialise and Koulibaly remained a Napoli player, with Bayern now looking to swoop in and secure a deal for the Senegal international.
Koulibaly is a top-class centre-back who has enjoyed an excellent career in Italy with Napoli. He has averaged a superb WhoScored rating of 7.05 across his career, dating back to his performances for Gent in Europe in 2012, showing that he has been remarkably consistent over the best part of a decade. At the age of 29, he also still has a few more years to give at the top level, which is why he could be a very good addition to Liverpool’s squad.
However, they could be about to miss out on him if they do not act quickly, with Bayern making their move early. This tactic has already lost one target for Liverpool to the same opponent, with Bayern announcing the signing of Dayot Upamecano last month from RB Leipzig. This means that Liverpool could end up losing two transfer targets to Bayern in one summer.
