Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed a quadruple blow to his squad ahead of their clash with Liverpool this weekend.

Lampard has revealed that Christian Pulisic, Thiago Silva, Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell are all set to miss out through injury. Timo Werner, however, is fit and ready to play after picking up a knock against Brighton on Monday.

Pulisic, Silva, Ziyech and Chilwell were also absent for Chelsea’s 3-1 win against Brighton, with three of them having arrived at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Whilst Chilwell, Ziyech and Silva are somewhat unknowns due to them not having made their debuts for Chelsea, Pulisic is a proven top-quality forward. The American impressed last season as he scored 10 and assisted five across the Premier League and Champions League, despite only starting 22 games.

This means that Pulisic averaged a direct goal contribution more than once every two matches in the two competitions, an excellent return for the forward. His absence could be a boost for Liverpool in that they do not have to face his quality, which they experience first-hand back in July. He scored in Liverpool’s 5-3 win against Chelsea, causing Klopp’s backline plenty of problems on the night.

However, Werner being fit is a boost to Chelsea following his promising debut against Brighton. The German was unable to get off the mark in terms of goals, but he was able to win a penalty to and Chelsea the lead. He raced onto a through ball to nick the ball past Mat Ryan and draw a foul for Jorginho to convert from the spot. Liverpool could be looking out for him this weekend in order to deal with the threat of his pace in behind.
