Joel Matip was forced off the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte due to a muscle injury he sustained in Liverpool’s 3-1 pre-season defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

The centre-back only lasted 22 minutes on the pitch before Joe Gomez replaced him. Matip has had a difficult time at Liverpool with injuries, and it only continued against Borussia Dortmund.

Matip only recently returned to full first-team training with the squad having been recovering from an injury from last season.

Jurgen Klopp told his post-match press conference: “It’s not the same injury. It’s another muscle – it looks like, hopefully, only a little tear.
