Liverpool centre-back Fabinho picked up a muscle injury against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League last night.

Fabinho was substituted in the first half of the clash at Anfield. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp revealed that he is unsure on the severity of Fabinho’s injury.

Klopp said the following in his post-match press conference, as quoted by the club’s official website: “Fab, I don’t know. Muscle injuries are like this, you get the result tomorrow morning probably, we have to wait for that.”

If Fabinho has suffered a long-term injury, Liverpool could be in some serious trouble from a defensive point of view.

As things stand, Joe Gomez is Liverpool’s only fit senior centre-back option. Youngster Rhys Williams had to come on and replace Fabinho in the Champions League clash last night.

We don’t believe that Liverpool can be relying on Williams going forward this season. The reality is, the 19-year-old has only made four senior appearances for Liverpool.

All those appearances have come this season, which highlights that he is a very inexperienced player.

Hopefully Fabinho’s injury is only minor, as Klopp really needs more than one fit senior centre-back option. Klopp can’t even rotate Gomez because of the current situation.

On a positive note, Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory over FC Midtjylland last night.
