Jurgen Klopp has stated that Liverpool are now “free” of worrying about finishing the 2019-20 Premier League season unbeaten after losing to Watford last night.

Watford defeated Liverpool 3-0 at Vicarage Road thanks to goals from Ismaila Sarr and Troy Deeney. The loss was Liverpool’s first of the 2019-20 Premier League season, which means the talk of the Reds remaining unbeaten until May is now finished.

Despite the defeat, Liverpool still possess a 22-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Klopp has stated that his side no longer need to think about emulating Arsenal’s 2003-04 unbeaten Premier League season, however, he did state that his side do need to worry about bouncing back from a poor loss to Watford.

“I don’t think you can break records because you want to, you break records when you’re 100% focused on what you want to do, whether it’s running a marathon or whatever,” Klopp told reporters post-game.

“You have to perform and the boys did that in winning the games.

“Tonight we were not good enough. It’s not now a plus for me that we look back years later and think Liverpool nearly did it. That’s not my main concern. You can’t change it.

“We were going to lose a game at some time, and we didn’t wait for it but it was clear it would happen. Tonight it happened and I see it rather positive that we got close to these records.

“Now we can play free football again and don’t have to try and get a record. We just have to try to win football games again, and that’s what we will do.

“We feel the defeat really, it’s absolutely 100% the opposite of what we wanted to have.

“We have to feel that. And now we have the chance to show a reaction again and that’s what we will do.

“Some people have asked me if I saw it coming because the last game wasn’t the most convincing in our career together, but it doesn’t mean the next one has to be the same. You can always change things.

“We played game by game so far and we will continue. If some records are over, it’s not that we wanted that, but it’s not really my concern.

“What the boys done so far is exceptional but it’s not over, that’s the only thing I’m interested in, it’s not over. We will go again 100% and we will see where that leads us.

“We didn’t expect the number of games we won, but we’re not surprised as the boys showed last season an impressive season. But it will never be easy. Now let’s carry on.”

It would have been nice to see Liverpool go through the entire 2019-20 Premier League season unbeaten, but it was just not meant to be.

Liverpool have not been playing very well as of late. They just appear to be very flat with and without the ball.

Hopefully this is the result Liverpool need to get moving again, because there is no denying that Klopp’s side have dropped off.
