Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that the decision to swap Jordan Henderson for Thiago at half-time against Aston Villa was made before a ball had even been kicked on Friday night.
The Reds travelled to Villa Park on Friday night but struggled to break down a spirited Villa team that was full of their academy players.
Indeed, things were level at the break and that saw the introduction of Thiago ahead of the second 45, though Klopp revealed afterwards the call was premeditated.
Quoted by Paul Gorst, he revealed:
Klopp on reservations over playing: "Hendo and Thiago swap was decided before the game.
"No reservations. We trust the authorities. Our test results came back, everyone negative. They did what they thought was right with U23s."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
It made sense to put this decision in place before the game and it proved even more sensible once the game was underway.
The skipper gets a bit of a rest whilst Thiago gets more minutes in his legs ahead of the Manchester United clash.
Indeed, the Spaniard was the real difference on Friday night as he helped break Villa and that ultimately saw the Reds through on the night.
