Liverpool are interested in Red Bull Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate as the Reds continue to look over defensive options and potential new recruits.

The current Premier League champions have had no luck with defensive injuries this season and that has naturally prompted speculation that they’ll be looking at new players in the transfer market to help solve that.

According to German reporter Christian Falk, then, the Reds are interested in young defender Konate, who has been catching the eye for Red Bull Leipzig.

According to transfermarkt, the player is currently worth £36.45m and, at the age of 21, you would imagine that that value will only increase in the coming years.

He’s a physical presence, too, standing at 1.94 (6ft 4) and so, in theory, would add power to the Reds’ backline.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

The Reds are getting linked with several defenders at the moment and that will likely continue into the summer as well, even when Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk return.

Joel Matip’s fitness record has concerned again this season and Fabinho, though having done a good job, is better in the middle of the park so it makes sense the Reds might be looking elsewhere.

Konate is a young, impressive defender who has all the attributes to be a success at the highest level but, clearly, he could well cost a fair bit to sign.
