Jordan Henderson is a doubt for Liverpool’s next two games after he missed training at Melwood on Tuesday but it will give Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain the chance to start.
Liverpool held an open training session which Henderson was absent from and his absence could open the door for Keita or Chamberlain to start against Genk this evening.
The Reds will face the Belgians at Anfield but given how they won comfortably away from home two weeks ago, it should be a relatively easy task for Liverpool to pick up three points at home.
The Echo report that Hendo was training on a bespoke programme but given how Mo Salah missed the Manchester United game despite training on his own personally tailored programme, it seems prudent to assume that Henderson could miss the game tonight.
It might be a blessing in disguise for Liverpool if Henderson is injured as the former Sunderland star hasn’t exactly been in the best of form over the last month or so while Keita and Chamberlain have looked promising each time they’ve played.
Between them, they offer pace, a greater guarantee of goals from midfield and the ability to beat their opponent with skill. Adding either one of those to a trio already featuring Fabinho and Wijnaldum would further strengthen Liverpool’s starting XI.
Hopefully, Keita cracks the nod tonight and Chamberlain is given the chance to once again score a worldie against Manchester City by being started at Anfield on Sunday in the biggest game of the season so far.
