Former Red John Aldridge believes that Liverpool should be looking to make a move for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.
Werner, who has scored 20 goals in the Bundesliga for Leipzig this season, has been linked with a move to Liverpool in various reports.
Aldridge believes that the Reds should make a move for the striker as he would be a great addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
Aldridge told The Independent: “Prolific Red Bull Leipzig striker Timo Werner would be a great option and the joy for Liverpool will be that every player will want to be part of their success story.
“I saw Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe eulogising Liverpool in an interview a few days ago and it confirmed that the world’s greatest players are captivated by the story Klopp has pieced together.”
Aldridge is right. Werner, 23, would be a terrific player for Liverpool, especially when one considers how well the forwards have done at Anfield over the years.
The issue is convincing Werner to start off as a squad player. The only way the German forward could become a regular in Klopp’s XI from the beginning is if Roberto Firmino were to play in behind Werner, which is certainly a possibility.
This is a signing I could see happening, but it is difficult to say when it might happen due to how strong Liverpool currently are. The Reds are an attractive option for any player in world football as of right now.
