Former Red Jim Beglin has given his opinion on Salzburg’s Takumi Minamino, who is reportedly set to join Liverpool come the January transfer window.

According to journalist Melissa Reddy, Minamino will join Liverpool from Salzburg for a fee of £7.25 million.

Beglin believes that Minamino won’t be a starter in Jurgen Klopp’s preferred XI, but he does believe Minamino can provide cover in the attacking areas of the pitch.

“Probably a squad player because it [Liverpool] is so strong at the moment. It’s going to be difficult for him, but he looks to me like a number 10,” Beglin said about Minamino on beIN SPORTS.

Beglin added: “He is gutsy, he is quick, he has wonderful imagination, and he can finish.”

Beglin does raise a fair point in regards to how strong Liverpool’s squad is, especially in attack. Minamino would be aware that it is unlikely that he will be a starter.

However, considering how much football Liverpool are playing throughout each season, he won’t be starved of opportunity. He is also only 24 years old, meaning he has time on his side to make an impact at Anfield.

Klopp has had the opportunity to watch Minamino twice this season when the Reds played Salzburg in the Champions League.

With Klopp reportedly going a step further by looking to sign him, it clearly shows he has a plan in terms of how he will use the forward.
