Former Red Jamie Carragher believes that Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back Conor Coady is as good a passer of the football from the back as Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk.
Coady was once a Liverpool player. The defender departed the club in 2014 when Huddersfield Town signed him for a fee believed to be around £500,000.
Wolves then signed the defender in 2015 for a fee believed to be around £2 million, and since he has made the move to the club, he has certainly impressed Carragher.
In fact, the Liverpool legend believes that Coady’s ability to pass the football from the back is as good as Van Dijk’s.
“Conor Coady has also done brilliantly for Wolves; he has not missed a minute this season and is probably as good as anyone alongside Van Dijk in terms of passing from the back,” Carragher said, as quoted by HITC.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Coady has developed into quite a solid player since departing Anfield. This statement can be backed up by the fact that the former Red is now the captain of Wolves.
He is also apart of a defence that has only conceded 34 goals from 29 Premier League fixtures this season. In terms of Carragher’s claim regarding Coady’s passing, he might have a point.
However, Van Dijk is still on another level to Coady, which can be backed up by the fact that the Dutchman was runner-up for the 2019 Ballon d’Or.
