Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool are interested in Lille midfielder Renato Sanches.

Romano said that Lille have placed a €40 million price tag on Sanches’ head. Romano added that Barcelona are also interested in the 23-year-old.

As quoted by Anfield Watch’s Twitter account, Romano told the Here We Go podcast the following: “It’s Barcelona and Liverpool that are interested in Renato Sanches – but the price tag is around 40 million euros so we will see what happens in the coming days.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

We would love to see Liverpool make a move for Sanches. He is a fine young player.

The midfielder has scored five goals and registered five assists in 60 appearances for Lille.

Sanches also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 6.78 across the 2020-21 Ligue 1 campaign.

As we have already stated, Sanches is only 23 years of age. With that being the case, his career is only just beginning, which means that he still has plenty of room left for improvement.

Liverpool are yet to replace midfielder Gini Wijnaldum. The Dutchman officially departed Liverpool and joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer back in July.

Therefore, Liverpool are a midfielder short, which is another reason why we would like the club to sign Sanches. Only time will tell if Liverpool are to make a move for the youngster.

Romano said that Liverpool need to sell players in order to buy players this summer.
