Liverpool are in the process of rebuilding their defence.

Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Giovanni Leoni were all added last summer off the back of the Reds’ 20th league title, and a deal is in place to bring Jeremy Jacquet to the club this summer too.

Arne Slot’s side are clearly focussed on recruiting the most promising young defenders in Europe, and another centre-half may be on the agenda in the coming months.

Ibrahima Konate is into the final months of his deal, and both Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are about to enter the final year of their contracts, meaning departures are definitely on the cards.

Liverpool’s shortlist will be full of top options, but there is one man who is the perfect fit for Slot’s side.

Liverpool should move for former Arne Slot defender

A name that is yet to be seriously linked with a Merseyside move is Ramon Hendriks, but the Dutchman would be perfect for Liverpool.

The 24-year-old central defender currently plays for Stuttgart, and has become a central figure in the side that currently sit fourth in the Bundesliga.

Capable of being deployed at left-back and being known for his ability to play out from the back, Hendriks would fit well into Slot’s side.

Being left-footed, Hendriks looks like the heir to Van Dijk in the Dutch national team, having already earned seven caps, and he could be the heir to Liverpool’s captain at Anfield too.

Slot will already be familiar with the defender, having brought him into the first team at Feyenoord and played him 10 times.

Hendriks played as both a centre-back and a left-back under Slot, and will be available for around €40 million this summer according to transfer insider Florian Plettenberg.

Nottingham Forest made an approach for Hendriks in the winter window, and could still return for the Dutchman if they achieve Premier League survival, but Slot may be able to convince his former player to make a Merseyside move instead.

A rotation of Jacquet, Leoni and Hendriks supported by Van Dijk would be the ideal scenario for Liverpool as they try to once again challenge on every front next season.
