Insane €65m spend set to break Liverpool record already

Liverpool are reportedly looking at a €65m signing right now. It would break a record within one year.

Liverpool had a 2025 summer transfer window unlike anything we've seen before. The Reds shattered records all over the place, including their overall most-expensive signing twice.

The first was Florian Wirtz, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen for an initial £100m. That made him Liverpool's first-ever nine-figure arrival and potentially, through add-ons, the most expensive in English football history.

Though, that now can't happen as Liverpool set a new record outright at the deadline. Alexander Isak joined from Newcastle United for a record-breaking amount and meant that this pair had cost the club over £200m alone.

But they weren't even the only record-breakers. Liverpool also signed the most expensive right-back in their history by bringing Jeremie Frimpong to the club, also from Leverkusen.

Milos Kerkez, too, was a record arrival. He became the most expensive left-back and, by eclipsing the Frimpong fee, the most expensive full-back.

But that's a record that may be broken this summer.

Liverpool chase Nathaniel Brown

Bild report that Liverpool are after Nathaniel Brown for the summer. The Eintracht Frankfurt left-back was linked with the club in 2025 before Kerkez arrived but it appears some interest remains.

And that makes some sense. Andy Robertson's contract expires at the end of the season and we don't expect it to be renewed. Liverpool would thus need someone new to arrive to compete with Kerkez.

It would be a massive surprise for that player to be Kostas Tsimikas - a signing makes the most sense. Brown, though?

Bild's report suggests he'd cost around €65m which would break the full-back transfer record that Kerkez set under a year ago. It feels like overkill, especially given the Hungarian's arrival was supposed to make him the long-term option there.

Brown would feel a little like a replacement. At the very least, he'd be strong competition in a position that really doesn't feel like it needs it.

Do Liverpool have the money to sign Brown, and a left winger and replace Mo Salah and sign a centre-back? Because we're not sure they do but it's entirely possible that they're looking at all four signings in 2026.

So on the face of it, €65m for Brown seems insane. But maybe there's a bigger plan here.
